Travel Advice for Dover to Calais

Due to heavy traffic from Dover to Calais and Calais to Dover this Thursday/Friday and over the weekend, as well as higher temperatures than in recent days.

P&O ferries would like to remind you of the best advice for a safe journey.

Toilets will be available, but passengers should expect a long wait and take extra food and drink with them, as well as any medication they may need.

1/ Before arrival at Dover ans Calais ports

  • Make sure all drivers know their booking reference and sailing time as this will be requested on arrival at the port.
  • To prevent delays, all passport/ID card to be submitted via the Group Scan App, for further details and to download please visit the group travel web page.
  • If the Group Scan app is not used, a physical Group Passenger List is to be completed including the booking reference, sailing time, vehicle registration number and all passenger names including drivers and a breakdown of how many drivers/adults and children
  • All passengers have their passport/ID card and any supporting documentation on hand ready for API scanning to prevent delays.
  • If you are using a Collective Group Passport or NATO Travel Order you MUST notify us in advance to avoid unnecessary delays
  • We advise to arrive at the port at least 120 minutes before your scheduled sailing time. Check-in closes 60 minutes before our scheduled departure times

2/ Additional advice whilst at Calais port

  • After the P&O Ferries check-in and whilst on the way to the Coach Hall, all passengers to be handed back individually their passport/ID card and any supporting documentation.

  • Ensure all passengers are ready to leave the coach upon arrival at the Coach Hall and that they have all documentation with them.

  • Upon exiting the Coach Hall all passengers to re-join the coach.

  • For health and safety all passengers will need to remain on board the coach at all other times. Toilet facilities will be available, but passengers should plan ahead for a prolonged wait including carrying extra food/drinks and any required medications.
